Assessment
The Panel is only able to assess Gold expeditions, this is because of the large number of groups coming to the Lake District requesting assessment.
All expeditions, including practice journeys, are to be supervised by an experienced adult who must accept responsibility for the safety of the group.  He or she must be satisfied that the participants are fully trained and properly equipped to undertake the expedition planned.
Please send your notification forms and route tracings, 2 copies of each, to the Panel Co-ordinator as early as possible.  Assessors are all volunteers who give up their free time to assess groups, therefore it is not possible to guarantee an assessor for your group.  However it is more likely that an assessor will be available if:
  • notification forms and tracings are submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the expedition (please feel free to send them in as early as possible, some groups send them in 5 or 6 months in advance!)

The Panel requires 2 copies of the route on good quality tracing papers to be sent in the first instaance to the Panel Co-ordinator with 2 copies of the notification form (and an SAE).  No other information is necessary at this stage.  Once the assessor has been allocated and has approved your route then the route cards, equipment lists, menus etc should be forwarded direct to the assessor.

Notification Only Groups
For groups who are coming to the Lake District for practice expeditions or are bringing their own assessors should submit 2 copies of their route and 2 copies of their notification form at least 4 weeks prior to the expedition.  Groups will received an expedition number from the Panel.
